The Core Cider House in Pickering Brook (Perth Hills) is a favourite of mine. We’ll often drop by for a cheeky drink in the gorgeous “cider garden”, having a bowl of wedges or a platter to share. On this occasion we brought our lovely English cousins along and we all had a spot of lunch.
We sat on the shady veranda, which has sweeping views of the tree covered hills. The Cider House is in a beautiful setting and the type of place you could easily spend a few hours on a sunny day.
Seasonal fruit salad ($18) Fresh in-season fruit (on this occasion Pear from the orchard), candied walnuts, Blue Cheese, Fresh Spinach, Honey dressing. This was a really tasty salad. The sweet pear and tangy blue cheese complimented each other perfectly.
WA Barramundi ($31.50) The barramundi is sourced from Cone Bay, perfectly pan-fried with lemon pepper, orange mayonnaise, chips and a side salad.
We all enjoyed the food (it can be hard to please 11 people!). It was tasty, well-cooked and bursting with local produce. As well as the excellent ciders (the sparkling pear is my favourite), Core also now have their own range of wine. The Sunday Session is a good time to visit. There’s musical entertainment in the garden as well as wood fired pizzas and “dude food” platters.
The service at Core was, as always, warm and helpful. You always feel very welcome there and even though 11 of us turned up without a booking (we couldn’t get through when we phoned), we were happily accommodated.
Afterwards, we walked off our lunch with a wander around the Cider Garden. The kids enjoyed running around on the lawn and the big kids enjoyed a game of boccue.
As a side note, my visiting cousins thought me taking photos of anything and everything quite amusing. There was a competition to get their Eagles ball in a photo! I managed to evade the ball (or crop it out), but not this one!! Haha This ones for you Paul, Adam and Matt!
Wow this place is so nice! Friends of ours lived down the road from this a few years ago and kept telling us about this place! another one to add to my ever-growing list for sure!
Its gorgeous April! I love Core, I could sit in the cider garden all day long 🙂
Core is fantastic. My list is a mile long too, we’re spoiled for choice at the moment in Perth 🙂
