We’ve been enjoying tasting our way through this year’s Western Australian champions of Australian dairy! The Australian Grand Dairy Awards recognise and reward excellence and quality in Australian dairy produce, paying tribute to the highly-skilled specialists who develop and make these “legen-dairy” products for us.
I had a very special delivery last week from Mundella and Bannister Downs, who are both very proud winners of a coveted Australian Grand Dairy Award – Australia’s most prestigious national dairy award and the highest accolade for a dairy producer in Australia to win. Here in Australia we’re lucky to have some of the very best local producers and dairy products in the whole world.
To become champions these tasty products went through a rigorous judging process over two days, which saw a whopping 470 dairy products tried, tested and approved by a panel of twenty four technical experts, chefs, retailers and flavour specialists. These products are indeed the best of the best that Australia has to offer.
Look out for the blue and gold medal on packs to know you’re buying the best of the best and support local Australian producers. Here’s just two of the medal winning products, I was gifted products from Mundella and Banister Downs and we all were very excited to try them:
Mundella is one of WA’s most awarded dairy companies. Their yoghurts are naturally made and are free from additives, gelatines and preservatives – which is why I choose to use them.
I was already a fan of Mundella and regularly use their natural Greek yogurt to make my bircher muesli for my breakfast. I’m a big lover of bircher. The healthy brekkie fills me up first thing and keeps me going till lunchtime, without feeling the need to snack. The creamy yogurt, oats, nuts and fruit is a very tasty combo.
Expert Tasting Note on the Award Winning Greek Natural Yoghurt
“A consistently well-balanced yoghurt, this superbly smooth and creamy product has once again impressed the judges. The clean and fresh flavours and zingy finish offer the perfect way to start the day.”
Bannister Downs was started in Northcliffe, in WA’s south west, nearly a century ago. The pristine environment of the Great Southern lends to excellent dairy farming conditions with their Holstein Fresian cows grazing on lush green pastures. They are also global leaders in ethical dairy farming.
Recently I held a High Tea Baby Shower for my sister in law and the Bannister Downs double cream was a perfect accompaniment for the scones and jam. The cream is so lusciously thick and so decedent! Little Chef LOVES their all natural smoothies. And I think their packaging, featuring some of their cows, Annalise and Heather, is beautiful.
Expert Tasting Note on the Award Winning Double Cream
“Good quality milk makes superb cream so it’s no surprise this sweet fresh cream has come out on top. Rich and indulgent, this cream is perfect served on its own with fresh strawberries, or as an accompaniment to your next show stopping dessert.”
Next time you’re shopping in Coles, Woolies or IGA take a moment to ask yourself where your dairy comes from. You can support the Western Australian dairy industry by buying from local farming families and companies. These quality dairy products are indeed the cream of the crop!!
