The Hummus Club, Northbridge

Years ago, I discovered The Hummus Club at a Perth foodie event and it was love at first bite. I savoured the Club Mix, served from their pop up food stall,  a delicious combo of all their favourites – a generous serve of hummus, fluffy falafels, a middle eastern salad with a pomegranate dressing and fresh pita. All that was washed down with their refreshing pomegranate lemonade. It was absolutely delicious. When owners Ziad and Kaitlin opened their very own restaurant on William Street, I was so excited to visit!

Earlier this year, one of my BFFs, Nays and I had booked a table at the Hummus Club. We were there for a early pre-movie bite to eat, before heading to the Rooftop Cinema, in Northbridge. I’d hoped their move from market stall to bricks and mortar restaurant had not taken anything away from what I’d loved about the simplicity of their food.

The very popular restaurant, with it’s vibrant feature wall and neon sign is buzzing and it has a really good vibe about it. Bookings are essential! IMG_4599

The food on the menu is designed to share. A trip to The Hummus Club is not complete unless you order a hummus bowl (IMO). It’s the staple dish of every Mid Eastern meal. All bowls of hummus ($18) are served with fresh, locally baked Lebanese bread and come with your choice of topping (beef, chicken, freekeh and mushroom). We picked the latter and the chunks of pan fried mushrooms were oozing with flavours of garlic, onion and herbs. The smooth, creamy hummus was every bit as delicious as I’d remembered.

I’m SO glad we tried the Zaatar Fried Chicken ($16). This is THC’s version of KFC, except way way way better! The crisp fried chicken is cooked in spices, making the coating oh so flavoursome. A bite through the crunchy exterior reveals the deliciously moist meat inside. Served along with pickles and a garlic toum (a sort of whipped Mid Eastern aioli). This had to be my favourite dish of the night, but it was a tough call!IMG_4596

We also enjoyed a pearl cous cous salad, brimming with roast veg.IMG_4597

All in all we both loved our first taste of The Hummus Club in Northbridge. It’s a pimped up version of the original, bigger menu, chilled surroundings, excellent value and the same (if not better) deliciously punchy flavours that I first fell in love with.

Afterwards, we headed up bustling William Street to the Rooftop Cinemas.

It’s found on top of the Roe St carpark in warmer months. Get there early to grab a good spot on the beanbags or deckchairs and enjoy what is a stunning view of the city 🙂 There’s a bar, as well as hot food and snacks too.
