Woodfire Restaurant, Ellenbrook

Last year I wrote about a hidden gem that’s hiding in suburban Ellenbrook – Woodfire Restaurant. Italian Chef/Owner Lorenzo, (formerly Head Chef of Jamie’s Italian both in Perth and the UK) asked me along to a bloggers brunch to celebrate their opening for an Italian-style breakfast.

The bustling, open restaurant has an open kitchen, complete with wood fire. To begin our feast, we got to try a whole array of what Woodfire offers on it’s brand new brunch menu.

Here’s the pick of the brunch… ahem, bunch:

Baked eggs ($16.90) cooked in the woodfired oven along with sausage, smoked mozzarella, potato and Roma tomatoes are delicious, and perfect for dunking with focaccia!

The “schiacciata all ‘Avocado” ($16.90) is Woodfire’s version of a brunch favourite – smashed avo. The freshly baked bread is topped with creamy avocado, fetta and slow roasted cherry tomatoes.

One thing I found is that’s there’s not a lot to choose from on the menu for those with gluten intolerances (like me). But I did really enjoy tasting the “Benedict Italiane” ($14.90). I’m rather partial to an eggs benny and this Italian version was spot on.  Truffled mushrooms, sautéed spinach, and two poached eggs sit upon a bed of crispy polenta and covered with creamy parmesan hollandaise.

Brekkie Pizza ($18.90) has a rich tomato sugo sauce base, topped with mozzarella, smokey pancetta, mushrooms and a free range egg.

And there’s something for the sweet tooths too. Lemon meringue pancakes with popping candy ($14.90).

Buttermilk pancakes with lashings of Nutella, strawberries and vanilla bean gelato ($12.90).IMG_0829

And to finish… Chef Lorenzo’s famous bomboloni (filled doughnuts) has gone next level! Fried chicken, with spicy arribiatta sauce, peppers, and a basil crème fraiche is served in a bombolone bun ($17.90). This dish was impressive and most of the bloggers named it their favourite of all the dishes. Definitely one to try!

When I’ve lunched at Woodfire I’ve been really impressed with their food.  Their meaty dishes are cooked over hot jarrah coals in their hand built fire pit, fish is baked in the wood fired oven, their pastas are made in house and their pizzas are so good!

As I’ve said before, the Ellenbrook locals are incredibly lucky to have this restaurant in their ‘hood.  Not only is the food top notch and beautifully presented, but the waitstaff are also very friendly and always happy to help. Do yourself a favour and check Woodfire out for brunch, lunch or dinner, you won’t be disappointed!

Thanks to Chef Lorenzo and his team for a tasty brunch.
