I was SO sad when the Cheese Barrel closed its doors last year, but there is a NEW Swan Valley spot to eat allll the cheese… Two Birds Fromagerie. If you’re crazy about cheese and craving a creamy camembert, be sure to drop by to this tasty spot.
I visited with one of my fellow Perth Bloggers and good friend, Reeva. It was a little early for me to get stuck into the vino, so I enjoyed a coffee along with our cheese board – a first for me! If you love to enjoy a glass of Swan Valley wine with your cheese, Two Birds offer wine pairings.
There are a lot of Australian cheeses to choose from in the chiller cabinet, and a particular focus on West Aussie cheeses. After chatting to the “birds” I discovered their philosophy is “why import cheeses from around the world, when we have so many amazing boutique cheese makers in Australia.” Be sure to take a couple of cheeses home with you.
Two Birds Fromagerie specialise in gourmet platters, and what a treat they are! The “WA Cheese Board” ($45) is a feast for two. The cheeses change daily, we enjoyed Saint Julien from Yallingup Cheese, a soft Metricup camembert (also from Yallingup Cheese) and a creamy Outback Brie from Dellendale Creamery of Denmark. I loved them all.
I also nibbled on semi-dried raisins, apple slices, olives, and a fruit paste. Plus, we added salami ($4.50) and WA small batch honey ($4) to the board, because why on earth not?! The platter was fresh, delicious and the perfect size for grazing for two.
The Gluten Factor
We made a couple of GF tweaks – swapping the original offering for gluten free crackers and bread. The sliced breadstick, with seeds, was fresh and tasted like the real deal.
If you have little tackers in tow, they’ll be well entertained by the climbing frame and shaded sand pit.
Two Birds Fromagerie is definitely worth checking out.
