Hello!! I’m Amanda – The Chef’s Wife. So glad you stopped by…
In April 2013 I decided that I would finally turn my blogging idea into a reality, mainly as I thought I could bring something slightly different to the Perth blogosphere.
My point of difference is that I’m married to a Chef, dine with a Chef (its great having a walking/talking glossary on hand!!) and I can also add a few Chef-related culinary competitions and that kind of thing. I’ve been surrounded by the Perth hospitality industry for well over a decade, not only is my husband a Chef, but also my brother in law and father in law!! Chef talk is all that goes on in our family!!
Another point about the blog is I say “recommendation” and not “review”, as I’d like to only mention places that are worth going to, not focus on negatives. Oh believe me, there are plenty of bad dining places around town. However, I’m well aware that everyone – including Chefs – have off days. So we’re just going to focus on those fantastic places around Perth that we’d be happy to tell a friend they must go and try.
I’ll add a bit more in future about my busy other half… Here’s the main points;
Worked at several 5* Perth Hotels and award winning resorts in WA. Also previously Head Chef at a popular Hillarys restaurant.
Currently he’s enjoying a bit of sport running corporate suite functions at some large venues in and around Perth city.
He ran his own section for a couple of years at a Michelin starred restaurant in the UK.
Member of the National Australian Culinary Team
Member of and (2 times Captain) The Western Australian Culinary Team
Has done cooking demos at festivals, food stores and expos
About the Chefs Wife…
I’m immensely proud of the city of Perth and my biggest pet hate is the “Dullsville” tag it had for so many years. I’m so happy to see that over the last year or two the use of the “D-Word” has diminished almost completely and we’re now in an exciting phase of growth in the city dining and hospitality scene. We’ve come a long way in the last few years. We’re right in the midst of it all – in another few years with the additions of Elizabeth Quay, Crown Towers, The Treasury precinct and the Perth City Link it will be A-Mazing!! Is it too early to book afternoon tea at the Ritz?!
I was born and bred in the Perth Hills, which many of you will notice, as I have a BIG LOVE for the Kalamunda area and still visit it frequently. I also am immensely proud of my Yorkshire heritage and I have lived in the UK no less than 4 times!! We had a wonderful holiday there in July 2014 – happy days. Our culinary highlight being dining a a couple of Michelin starred restaurants, including Heston’s Hinds Head in Bray.
Besides food – my other obsessions are Formula One (it’s #1 on my bucket list to go to a GP – preferably at Spa or Monaco) and we also love the fantastic TV series Game of Thrones, visiting some of the locations on our trip to Northern Ireland!
The Chef, His Wife… started as an idea that I had for a couple of years. I kept it to myself and didn’t really have the confidence or self-belief that I could pull it off. Gradually, I shared my idea with a few close friends and it’s really thanks to their encouragement that I did “put it out there”. I surprised myself at the popularity of my blog and created something bigger than I ever expected with over 8000 followers on various social medias (as of Jan 2016).
Moving forward I am now branching out into social media management. I have consulted with a large West Australian hotel on a bloggers event and manage the social media for a few WA hospitality companies. I’m always looking for new opportunities, so please feel free to contact me to discuss.
“The Chef’s Wife” In The Press
All of the written and photographic content on “TheChef, His wife and Their PERTHfect life” blog is written by myself (The Chefs Wife). On a very rare occasion I will use a picture of a venue – in the instance when my own hasn’t turned out due to bad lighting/weather etc and I will credit the owner of the photo. If you wish to use one of my photos, permission MUST be obtained by myself.
All of the posts are reflective of our personal experiences, when we eat out. We don’t visit restaurants specifically to write recommendations; we do so because we love to dine out regularly. We love to tell our friends of our dining discoveries and the blog is an extension of this.
Whilst I like to keep the posts positive, I certainly have my own opinion and I will definitely share this – good or bad!! If our overall experience is bad though – I simply will not blog about it. I take venues for what they are; a casual family restaurant, takeaway or local pub is not comparable with a high end restaurant – but I still may enjoy both. I alter my expectations depending on where we visit. As long as it’s tasty, fresh, clean, has good service, inviting atmosphere and not taking the P in terms of price, then we’re happy!
Occasionally I write blog posts where I have been compensated by way of event invitations, complimentary meals etc When I have been remunerated in this way, I will ALWAYS indicate in the blog post that I have been invited. To give the blog as much transparency as possible.
“The Chef, His Wife…” is an advertising and PR friendly food blog.
I’d be very happy to discuss attending launches, openings, menu tastings. I’m really interested in anything tourism related as I love Perth and I love travel – in and out of WA. If you have any questions or opportunities for us, please do not hesitate to contact me. I’d consider most things that I believe would interest the followers of the blog. Products that are food, chef, child friendly, Perth, family or homemaker related.
Media kits are available on request.
I would love to hear from you. Please send me an email at email@example.com or a “Private Message” via our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheChefHisWifeTheirPerthFectLife if you would like to get in touch.
