One of the things I really love about blogging is the little platform it gives me to promote wonderful local businesses that I find – be it a locally run café or an innovative stall at a Perth market. So, it was a bit random that Westfield, a massive international corporation, was holding a local produce market at it’s Whitford City Shopping centre. I thought it was a superb idea though, from their Marketing Department. I love a browse around market stalls and there aren’t that many in our area (outer NOR). Some of the stalls at Whitfords are also found at the Twilight Hawkers Market, Perth Upmarket and various farmers markets.
“The Market” at Westfield Whitford City launched yesterday (Saturday the 10th) and it will be on each Saturday morning for at least the next few weeks – hopefully longer!
There is local produce (honey, seafood etc) street food stalls (like latasha’s Kitchen and Boss Hoss BBQ), juices, popcorn and other small local businesses like “Pretty Sharp”, who will professionally sharpen your knives.
Honey I’m Home
Honey I’m Home is a local business run by Beekeepers Blaine and Tristan.Their hives are in Beechboro and she also sources honey from other hives around Perth. There are lots of different honeys on offer; I found the infused honeys really interesting. I like the sound of the Star Anise Honey for use on Pork and I can’t wait to try the cinnamon honey on some pancakes! Yummo.

Empanadas are delicious, deep fried savoury pastries filled with various ingredients. Empanadas originated in Spain and so popped up in Latin America. In Colombia, they make their empanadas with maize flour.
I tried three varieties of empanadas.
• Beef – Shredded beef skirt with potato and capsicum
• Pork & Lime – Pulled Pork Shoulder with Lime & Coriander
• Potato – Potato with paprika & spring onion
They are all delicious, the Pork and Lime is my favourite though. Make sure you check them out!!

Tanya Mac Inspired
I met Tanya, of Tanya Mac Inspired and the passion for her boutique product development company was infectious. Tanya has gorgeous designer pantry labels – I love the vintage look of them and they will be a great addition to my super organised pantry. I am an “everything in its place, pedantic, labels to the front kind” of gal. So I need to find some lovey big jars for these pretty labels. These are also a great gift idea.

The Honey Cake
This layered cake is simply heaven on a plate! It’s a really unique cake, ultra-thin layers of caramel and cake, like nothing I’ve ever had. It’s perfect for a little self-indulgent treat. There’s no nasties either, in the handmade cakes.
The Market is on Saturdays’, 9am to 2pm and can be found outside at the Woolworths entrance. The vendors change a little each week, there are about 12 different stalls, live music and entertainment for the kids.
